Building Brighter Futures Together: Thank You to Heidelberg Materials

Access to quality early childhood education can change a child’s life. At Koorana, we believe that no child’s opportunities should be limited by ability, circumstance or background. Every child—of all abilities—deserves the chance to learn, play and explore all of life’s possibilities. That belief sits at the heart of our new Inclusive Preschool in Bass Hill, currently being brought to life in a community where access to early learning is needed most. Located in South-Western Sydney, this ward has the lowest ratio of childcare places to children in its local government area.

Families in the area are culturally diverse, and many experience economic disadvantage—factors that can make access to early childhood education even more challenging. Research shows that access to early childhood education, particularly for children experiencing vulnerability, leads to better health, learning, employment and mental health outcomes across a lifetime. That’s why this preschool matters—because it lays foundations that support children not just for today, but for the rest of their lives.

It Takes a Village

Creating an inclusive preschool of this scale has truly been a community effort. With the generous support of the NSW Department of Education, alongside a range of dedicated community partners, we have been able to progress this important project together. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. In this case, that village has helped raise the preschool for the children. However, following delays to the build, we found ourselves at the final stages of construction still needing support to complete the outdoor areas—spaces that will soon be essential for play, movement and connection.

Heidelberg Materials Steps In

That’s when Heidelberg Materials stepped forward. Recognising both the urgency of the need and the lasting impact this preschool will have on local children and families, Heidelberg Materials generously donated 70 cubic metres of concrete, without hesitation. This remarkable contribution has enabled us to complete critical outdoor elements, including the car park, footpaths and surrounding infrastructure. Thanks to Heidelberg’s support, what is currently a construction site will soon become a vibrant place filled with children learning, playing and growing together. This contribution is a powerful example of a business that truly cares about community impact. It isn’t about profit—it’s about leaving a positive legacy that will benefit generations to come.

Our Sincere Thanks

We simply could not have completed this project without Heidelberg Materials, or without the collective support of our many community partners who have walked alongside us on this journey. On behalf of Koorana, and the children and families who will soon walk through the doors of our Bass Hill Inclusive Preschool—thank you. Together, you have helped turn a vision into reality and created stronger foundations for brighter futures.
