Response to Recent News – Thriving Kids program

Last week, the Hon. Mark Butler announced the new Thriving Kids program.

As an organisation providing early intervention and allied health, early childhood education and family support services, we know how crucial it is for children to receive the right supports in the early years.

While the Thriving Kids program has the potential to strengthen pathways and supports for families, we also recognise the uncertainty and hurt this announcement has created, particularly for many families of children with autism. Many families understandably feel unsettled.

What we know for certain is this: regardless of labels or schemes, the needs of children and families are real and legitimate. For many children, including those with autism, these needs are lifelong and significant. Supports must always be shaped around the child and family—not the other way around.

We are committed to advocating to ensure no child or family is left behind, and that all families can access the services they need in line with their child’s needs under the new scheme. We also are committed to advocating to ensure these services are in line with best practices for early childhood intervention.

For families working with Koorana, please be assured that we will stand alongside you throughout this period of change. Our commitment to delivering holistic, inclusive, and family-centred supports remains unwavering.

We look forward to engaging through the consultation processes both in NSW and the Commonwealth to help shape this future scheme to ensure all children have the support they need in the early years.
