Response to Recent News – National Child Safety Changes

On Friday 22 August 2025, the Early Education Ministers announced a $189 million National Child Safety Package – a significant step forward for safeguarding children across Australia.

At Koorana, we welcome these reforms wholeheartedly.

We agree that every child deserves to be safe, and every parent deserves to know their children are safe too. These reforms bring us closer to that vision.

The agreement includes:

  • The first national educator register
  • Mandatory child safety training
  • A nationwide assessment of CCTV
  • Tripling penalties for providers that aren’t up to scratch
  • Improved supervision rules – with a rapid assessment of supervision practices
  • Better information and transparency for parents on standards in centres
  • More unannounced spot checks by Commonwealth officers
  • Regular assessment and rating visits, including for those rated “Working Towards” under the standards
  • Ban on personal mobile phones from September 1

We welcome these changes and initiatives, and all efforts to strengthen child safety.

Koorana remains committed to its child-safe practices and has already started implementing a range of additional safeguards in our services. We will continue to actively reflect on our child safe practices and take steps to be child safe.
